by TimToday, we got up early to make our breakfast and to prepare for the second-day of our engineering workshops. Our instructor, Jorn, told us that we would be designing and making a plane, not using paper, but a very lightweight wood called balsa. First, we made a simple model and tested it. It did not work out at all. After many failures, Jorn taught us about the forces that are important for flight: lift, gravity and friction. With this information, we tried again. We designed and built new models. After working for an hour, we finally finish our second plane. We tested our planes outside our classroom. Everyone had three attempts to see who could fly furthest. My plane flew the longest distance.

by JosephThis morning, we went to the science center at TU Delft and did our first engineering and design workshop. Jorn, our teacher, first gave a presentation about industrial design, and then discussed the importance of function in design. Then, he asked us to design and make our own chair. After his presentation, we formed a team of students to compete against the counselors in a chair design competition.
