by Andre (with contributions from counselors and students)CERN (the European Center for Nuclear Research) is a massive research facility on the border of Switzerland and France where scientists from all over the world work together with the aim of understanding the basic building blocks of matter. Here, they observe the behavior of elementary particles, so that they can not only solve fundamental questions about what atoms are made of, but also find answers about universal mysteries such as the Big Bang, antimatter, dark matter and dark energy. Some of the information that we learnt was truly mind-blowing.
