by LukeToday was our second day in Geneva. After having a delicious breakfast of toast, cereal, croissant and juice in the hotel, we went to a village called Meyrin to rent bicycles. We rode the bikes to CERN, where we toured several exhibits. First, we went to an exhibit called Microcosm and saw how a particle accelerator works. We learnt how it takes pictures of collisions. After visiting Microcosm, we went to the Globe of Science and Innovation. It was huge inside, and there was lots of information about our universe and how it was formed. I thought the most interesting part of the exhibit was the comfortable pod chairs that would feed you information when you sat in them. It was a really cool experience! Before leaving, we also saw a show about the Big Bang, the history of the universe and why the nations of Europe decided to found CERN.After visiting CERN, we started our bicycle journey (known as the Passport to the Big Bang) along the route of the LHC (the Large Hadron Collider). The route would take us through the Swiss and French countryside to different parts of the LHC. We were a little lost when we started, but soon we were back on track and quickly found the way to our first stop – the Control Center of CERN. We were happy when we found the first station but unfortunately couldn't quite accomplish our mission as the code machine at this station malfunctioned. We decided to move on to our next station, which was called Neutrinos. Here, the machine worked well.and we got the code. After this, we cycled to the LHCb (one of the four detectors on the LHC), where there was another mission for us to complete. We were hungry when we got there, so we had a picnic there. The last station we managed to get to was called Cryogenie, which was quite far from our start point, so it took some time to go there. We were thirsty by the time we arrived (it was 32C), so we started searching for water fountains in the town nearby. After searching around almost the whole town, we found a fountain which had drinkable water. We still needed energy, so we stopped by a McDonalds on the way back. We ordered some Ice Cream Sundaes and rested for a while. Then we rushed back to the bike rental shop and went to downtown Geneva. After arriving in downtown Geneva, we went to a place called Bains des Paquis, a beach on the lake, where we could swim and play games in the water. I didn’t feel like getting in the water, so I stayed on shore and rested. We also ate dinner there, but the taste of the food was unfamiliar to us, so I didn't eat that much. On the way back to our hotel, we ordered some Pad Thai from a mobile food stand. It tasted delicious, and the people in the food truck were very nice. We even took pictures with them! Then, we went to eat ice cream at a lakeside ice cream restaurant. The only downside was that it was so expensive. It was almost five dollars for every ice cream cone. After filling up our stomachs with dessert, we went back to our hotel to rest. It was a fun but exhausting day. I fell asleep right after I arrived at the hotel.
